I have two types of systems where the same games are installed in different directories, ie:

System-A Steam: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe
System-B Steam: C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe

I've added system variables to both types of systems, where %GAMES% points to the corresponding path, ie:

System-A Variable: %GAMES% = C:\Program Files
System-B Variable: %GAMES% = C:\Games

From a command line this works perfectly on both systems if I want to launch Steam with autologin:

System-A: %GAMES%\Steam\Steam.exe -login USERNAME PASSWORD
System-B: %GAMES%\Steam\Steam.exe -login USERNAME PASSWORD

But if I enter the above command into the licensing in smartlaunch as follows:

%GAMES%\Steam\Steam.exe -login %license%

only the executable is run and all arguments are left out (it does not input the username or the password) even though the licenses entered below have the username and password. I've even manually typed in a username and password under licensing just for test as follows:

%GAMES%\Steam\Steam.exe -login USERNAME PASSWORD

and it still does not input the arguments when running this from Smartlaunch. Are system variables not usable under licensing or does it disable argument usage?

Do yourself a favour.  Quit wasting time on trying to get it to work this way and start spending that time on fixing it correctly with all the games having the same path.  I prefer my games on a seperate partition.  I tried what you are doing when I first setup SL and it is not worth the hassel.

Oh trust me, that crossed my mind. However it's only in different directories because I have new types on PCs, and the new ones are Vista 64 instead of XP. So even if I did install the games on the Vista 64 machines to the default directory, it would still be in a different directory than the XP machines (as it assigns "Program Files (x86)" in Vista 64 as default instead of "Program Files"). And not only am I not sure if forcing them to go to "Program Files" in Vista 64 will cause issues or not, but even if it didn't that means reinstalling about 180 games and running patches which with my other job duties will take about a month or longer (and not to mention waste the two months I've spent on it before).

on x64

%PROGRAM FILES% setting in the application management for SL will point to and find it in the x86 folder...

i hate to repeat the guy above (as id like to sound less of a dick)

but reinstall to the default directory, change references to C:\Program Files\GAME\GAME.exe to %PROGRAM FILES%\GAME\GAME.exe and all will be heavenly... (in both the batch and app management)

it will find everything fine on both x32 and x64, no directory restructuring needed (although i am fond of the C:\Games\ format but its just to custom for your standard tech... it will make his head explode)

I got a response from Smartlaunch support and it's a known bug that variables are not supported under Smartlaunch license management.

Bummer.

It's probably related to why you can't use native commands in license management like "COPY" or "MOVE" but instead actual .exe's liek XCOPY will work.

Anyhow, this would have saved me about another months worth of work and a full day or two worth of downtime in my gaming center by reloading/cloning the systems once they do match the same directories. But it will be nice to have the same directories in general (I'm definetely for the C:\Games\ instead of default C:\Program Files) and this will also give me a chance to make it a uniform Vista 64-bit across all systems instead of a mix.

yep i love the games directory... i also cut out the company's name... it pisses me off...

I want
C:\Games\Command & Conquer 3
NOT
C:\Games\EAFUCKUPS\Command & Conquer 3

Though I used C&C3 as an example im ashamed i bought the game... the engine they used is "pretty" otherwise IT SUCKS...

I miss trenching my base in Tiberian Sun (terrain effects) and the size of the maps as well.. not like in C&C3 where 1 base and you have no more area otherwise you are in their base (on 2v2 maps)

What?! DAMN! >_<
I'll have to double check, LM here...
Does this apply to LM only or all of SL NOT like System Variablies?
