| Thank you for recognition of our work We will post a solution in that post that can be implemented with Mikrotik (free linux router software) as soon as we finish testing layer 7 filtering.

| I think filtering or regulating UDP traffic is a bad idea. You are going to cause issues with game conversations as well as slow server refreshes. Why not simply upgrade to a real commercial router designed to handle commercial traffic loads? You guys are making this much more difficult than it needs to be. A gaming center is technically a broadband ISP, I'm not aware of any broadband ISP's using soho equipment... It's like trying to enter a F1 race with a gokart and wondering why you aren't keeping up...
Cisco 1841 if you have a cable modem or dsl under 15mbit of combined up/down bandwidth.
Faster connections I'd suggest the 2600 or 2800 series routers as they are most excellent in handling fios speeds or high speed cable connections in the 20mbit+ territory.
Jarod I believe has followed my advice and can soon attest to what I'm saying.

| Roger that Falgra. I got the 2811, based on your advice, and it worked wonders. I still have disconnects now, randomly, about once every couple weeks, but I have not yet figured out what is causing that. The store isn't even full and the games running aren't COD4. I am guessing it's the provider, but I am still investigating that.
But again, thanks everyone for the help. |

| ssh into your router and type:
sh int FastEthernet0/0
you should replace FastEthernet0/0 with that of your wan connection, can be 0/1, or other if you are using a cable HWIC card like the HWIC-CABLE-D-2.
other useful commands:
sh int summary
sh int status
sh int media detail | match Link
Also if you suspect bandwidth limitations being the culprit from an incorrectly provisioned modem or isp bottlenecks check:
you can change the load interval to 30 seconds on the WAN interface and then check during busy periods.
int FastEthernet0/0
load-interval 30
exit
sh int FastEthernet0/0
and of course replace interface with the appropriate one for your wan connection.
If you need any help just mail/pm me I can try to assist.
And yes it's easy to recommend a $2000 solution that provides your customers with satisfactory experience at your facility. People will leave and not come back if their online experience is poor or non existent when they try to use it. For most of us it will pay for itself in customer retention and satisfaction in the first month.

| | An Edimax fixed our problem 100%. An ER-1088 or they have a new model, either one will do the trick. It will handle 150,000 sessions and you can can control the session limits and time out. |
