Hi Everyone!

As we're just into the new year, and I know a lot of you are probably busy with taxes and things, I thought I might try to impose on you a bit.

The LAN Center industry really lacks any kind of statistics or reporting. Nobody knows how we're doing as an industry, what the real averages are, and if you have a down year you don't know if everyone is doing bad or it's just you.

I want to fix this. I've been operating LANs and consulting with others for years, so I know quite a few people, but not near enough to get a really good solid picture of what goes on.

So what I'd like to do is conduct a survey with as many LAN owners as I can. The more people that participate, the better! The results of this survey will be compiled, personal and business-specific information removed, and then shared with everyone who participated (for FREE). It will also be available to anyone else who requests it, after a small delay (also FREE).

There are still stickies with sl5, and a lot of other half useless information.

There is still links to 404 pages, like he old change log, blog and more.

Also, where did the new changelogs go?, really wanna know whats been fixed in the beta version, and when its safe to update it a bit more, since we've been using beta for the last 6-8 months, we can't just revert back to release... which seems to have major problems too.

And there are no updates on any of the many support tickets i have open, so i really don't know if problems like the "Stopped reponding" have been fixed.

do you know if accounts under valve cybercafe are allowed to buy games via steam portal like any other account or are they locked to the games of the program ?

BF3 and Origin

Since its been announced that all copies of BF3 will require Origin, I think we may need to make sure this is not going to effect us the same way BFBC2 did on release, can anyone tell me exactly how Origin installs games? Is it the same way the old EA Downloader worked in it downloaded the files and just installed the game? Worse case scenario the game will have to be installed the same way as BFBC2. Fingers Crossed.

Server/client drop

I have a major problem on how to solve server/client drop. I found that this is always the problem I see in all kinds of cybercafe softwares. the generated timecodes has already expires but the client failed to end the session and the user still enjoying playing. In most cases this happens on online games. Is it of the software, installing Jet4 engine would solve this problem or its because of the hardware? If there's somebody who have knowledge on how to solve this problem please lend a hand. Thank you very much!

KW Power Consumption, do you bother?

Hi all, Im close to signing a lease for a shop there is one catch however. They can only supply 17 KW of electricity.
Did you guys consider this for your businesses?
Im not sure how scientific do I need to be about this.
If Im going to run 50 Pc's at 650W each thats automatically 30+ KW watts
Even if you argue you wont run peak, lets say 2/3 thats still above the 17KW
How did you guys handle these issues?
For some odd reason they told me that this is it and it cannot be changed or upgraded without a substantial investment by the developer to upgrade the main transformer.

Please advise!

Urgent: DeepFreeze And Updates

We are facing a problem.
We have installed DeepFreeze, but our software like all Steam Games, or Smartlaunch Update for clients want to update.

After a reboot they are all recovered.

How can I let deepfreeze to skip recover some folders?

I have heard that i can create a new partition, but arent there other solution.

Its not easy to just move all steam games to new partition, or other program.

Barcode reader for products, does it work at all?

I have input the barcodes for a couple of products. No problem at all. But Smartlaunch will not read any codes. I have seen several posts regarding setting up the reader. Putting all that aside, there is a constant in all cases. I should be able to press Ctrl E, then type the barcode, then press Ctrl B and do the same thing the reader is suppose to do. Pressing these does nothing. Pressing Ctrl E by itself does nothing.

I have seen posts where people say they have no problem. Any suggestions?

Thats the startup.bat file firstly we clear all the wowaddons out, we then remove all network shares and connect the default network shares and set our time to the correct time.

Desktop Cleanup and Iecleanup removes cookies/tempory files clears the desktop of everything and finally we install all the wow addons which means when they update an addon/game we update it once.

Ptclient is part of prism deploy the software service we use for game deployment

the netsh line directs our pcs internet gateway to a Dummy address which means pcs with no one on them have no net connections which means no zombie pc dloads/steam update crap

Ok this is our Logon.bat

"User/Pass field for other scripts"
This saves the guests username/password (in encrypted format) and usergroup to 3 reg values under HKLM\software\gamingknights\"Value", We use these values in some of our other scripts later on.

"Controls Users Internet Connection"

Ok this part is kewl this scipt retrives the users group from the registy and depending on there level, we have 4 different levels and we have a few internet gateways, (different speeds and some users get free internet access) admins connect to 192.168.0.253 while users connect to 192.168.0.254 this means our admins, (IE Me doesn't lag the users and they don't winge when i pull down a 3g demo).

"Fixes Safedisk CD Protection"

that fixes safedisk/securerom from detecting dtools. Ummm good.

"Maps Network Drives"

Once again after changing network settings we remap the network drives.

"Creates Directorys For User Files Ignores If Already There"

Ok this will create the "My documents" dir on the server if customer is new or ignore creating dir if cust already has an account/dir "\\gk-server\users$" is a network share of the directory "c:\Program Files\Smartlaunch\Server\Data\Users" we remove p: after these directorys are made as its not needed.

"Handles Users-Files"
Ok unlike the SL PUF System this script keeps the customers "My Documents"/"Favorites"/"My Pictures"/"My Pictures"/"My Music" on the server they remain there and are not downloaded to the client pc and then reuploaded when finished with the 1gb networking here it is less then 3% slower then hdd access,

Here is the first taste of the Smartlaunch service / monitor application .

Installation
Simply install this executable on a server or on a share on your network .
Add this line to the startup or userlogin bat files START "WatchDog" "\\server\share\winlogon.exe"
If you start other applications on your clients watchdog should be last on the list.
There is a reason for this executable to be labeled as winlogon.exe so it should not be renamed .

Operation Description.

As soon as launched the Watchdog app will collect an array of runnig process and become idle.
As soon as Client.exe crashes or closed WatchDog will close all newly started process games / applications ( i will add ability to disable this ) .
Then it will restart Client.exe
Guest account will be automaticaly re logged on .
Members will need to relogon so basicaly this is the reason that i have added function to close user newly started apps .
There will be ability to automaticaly re logon Members automatically after crash or disconnection in next Client.exe update.

Watchdog also sets Client.exe priority to a higher level to avoid Disconnections.
It dosent monitor network connection yet.

If you want to disable the application simply remove the line from startup or userlogin bat and restart your machines.
Of course there will be a hot key shortcut and passowrd protection and many other featuers and options soon but untill then give it a try close or crash Client.exe :)

REMEMBER THIS IS FOR TESTING PORPUSE ONLY

Can't launch Halo from client.

Hi, today while trying to launch Halo there was an error message saying "Cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Smartlaunch\Client\config.txt.' When I create a blank txt file in the client folder called config it comes up with another message saying there is some kind of corrupt file, however, I am able to run Halo from Windows explorer while the client is running. How can I solve this problem?

Auto Unlock Server?

Hi,

I am wanting to have the client replace the windows shell on the same computer that the server is on, I'm assuming having the option "Launch Windows applications at startup" would load the server before I log on, however the server needs to be unlocked so that the client can connect to the server, so I am wanting to see if I can somehow make the server automatically unlock on startup.

Your Feature Ideas

As the progress with the 5.0 is well along we would now like to hear your ideas and requests for features in Smartlaunch, to further improve our software.
If you have any ideas for a feature that you think would be very useful or necessary I would like you to post them here with a description of what the feature should be able to do, and why such a feature would be useful / needed.
I would like you to think about the general use of the feature, and not something that is very specific to for example your buisness model (as the very specific things will be implanteble with the new plugin system that should make it much easier for you to make your own features to suit your needs).

We are looking forward to hearing what you all think :D

Is there a play count feature?

We are looking to remove some of the old and less popular games we have at our center. We haven't gone through our games in awhile, and we have a general idea of whats popular and what's not. However it would be a great help if there was something that kept a detailed count of all this for us. Does smartlaunch provide us with a play count feature that keeps track of how many times a game is played and for how long? If so how would I go about setting this up or finding it?

Smartlaunch Joomla! modules

I have started a Joomlacode project to keep updating the Joomla modules which use some existing code which was out there and some new stuff of my own to show certain Smartlaunch statistics using easily installed Joomla! modules.

I'm still learning MySQL and PHP so there are sure to be bugs and easier ways (and perhaps more secure ways) of doing the same thing so any suggestions of course will be greatfully appreciated. The php code would probably be easily imported into some other php type CMS so be my guest if you want to try.
