Smartlaunch Compatibility - 64 Bit Vista Business or Ultimate?

We have some new clients coming in soon and the current software does not support Vista 64bit Business or Ultimate. Being that the new machines will have 6gb of memory, this is untenable.

Restoring and backing up SmartLaunch

hi im just wondering if anyone here has restored smartlaunch from a back up
im reformatting my front desk computer this weekend and would just like to make sure im doing everything right

this is what i have found so far
i need to back up the folowing :

C:\Program Files\Smartlaunch\Server\Data\"DB" -for the database and users

[SL5] Statistics and Graphs

This is a very simple request. I would just like to know, as a developer of the new version, what you the users want to see.
Right now i am doing the statistics section of the new software so i was just thinking. What idears do you have ? What graphs and statistics do you want to look at ?. How can we do this better then the old version ?

(Just as an example, you can look up the top 5 to 100 users that has used the most time in front of a computer and sort them by Age, user group, zip code, etc etc.)

I have been working with S/L for a few years now and im a little sick of running round all my pcs and updating the same games and installing the same stuff and was wondering if there was any way to remote desktop / vnc multiple pcs at the same time eg : remote desktoping 23 computers at the same time front my front desk computer and installing a patch.

receipt layout

he current receipts can only be customized in a few ways. Fonts, logo, header and footer and margins, but not much else.

Certain countries request different recepits by law, so obviously one recepit won't fit for all.

Will it be possible to customize the receipts a bit more then it is possible now?

when we bout the Main Controller & 2 Power Switch From Smartlaunch but when the box came 3 week later i had every ting but when we tryed to hock it up to Smartlaunch it wanted an ip for in so i looed on the Smartlaunch web site it say i have to install SDM program but i did't get a cd or disk with it but when i email them they sied the link on my invose but there whas no invoise on or in the box at all i ched my email but no link at all if Smartlaunch is to sell them they have to give the program on a cd or dvd in the box or on there web site i fell that the rip me off and don't Care

As the progress with the 5.0 is well along we would now like to hear your ideas and requests for features in Smartlaunch, to further improve our software.
If you have any ideas for a feature that you think would be very useful or necessary I would like you to post them here with a description of what the feature should be able to do, and why such a feature would be useful / needed.
I would like you to think about the general use of the feature, and not something that is very specific to for example your buisness model (as the very specific things will be implanteble with the new plugin system that should make it much easier for you to make your own features to suit your needs).

We are looking forward to hearing what you all think :D

Vending machine kiosk style

I wonder if smartlaunch will eventually come up with a version of software which links it to a notes-acceptor kiosk where the customer will click on the PC they want and insert cash themselves. This means self-service as well as rendering the cashier obsolete -- my biggest problem.

I have been looking for such a system for years but to no avail.

There are plenty of kiosk style machines which ties the notes acceptor to individual machines. This is not cost effective and money collected is decentralised.

any opinion?

Barcode reader for products, does it work at all?

I have input the barcodes for a couple of products. No problem at all. But Smartlaunch will not read any codes. I have seen several posts regarding setting up the reader. Putting all that aside, there is a constant in all cases. I should be able to press Ctrl E, then type the barcode, then press Ctrl B and do the same thing the reader is suppose to do. Pressing these does nothing. Pressing Ctrl E by itself does nothing.

I have seen posts where people say they have no problem. Any suggestions?

SL making problem to Counter Strike

Hello,

few days ago we isntalled SL on 20gaming PC's and 13 Internet PC's. Beside all other small problems we had we encountered a problem that i can't figure out so far. I tryed to search the forums but it siems that noone had this problem before.

PC Configuration:

Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, 780G
Ram : Kingston HyperX DDR2 6400
Power unit : Coolermaster 460W
Graphic Card : ATI Radeon HD 3870 512DDR4
HDD : 160GB

NOTE: We are using Steam for cafe's without licence management.

Problem:
When we start Counter Strike 1.6 over steam with PUF activated CS it barely working. There is spikes every 2-3 seconds or players have extremly high movement speed. I tryed to delefe .gfc files from steam folder and to redownload them but it doesnt help.
When i have disabled PUF totally CS started to work better but the spikes are still here though now on every ~10 seconds. When i have disabled(admin mode/disable SL) CS workes perfectly, there is no spikes or speed problem no more.

Other games are working fine for now so CS 1.6 is only steam game that is problematic for now.

Here is the first taste of the Smartlaunch service / monitor application .

Installation
Simply install this executable on a server or on a share on your network .
Add this line to the startup or userlogin bat files START "WatchDog" "\\server\share\winlogon.exe"
If you start other applications on your clients watchdog should be last on the list.
There is a reason for this executable to be labeled as winlogon.exe so it should not be renamed .

Operation Description.

As soon as launched the Watchdog app will collect an array of runnig process and become idle.
As soon as Client.exe crashes or closed WatchDog will close all newly started process games / applications ( i will add ability to disable this ) .
Then it will restart Client.exe
Guest account will be automaticaly re logged on .
Members will need to relogon so basicaly this is the reason that i have added function to close user newly started apps .
There will be ability to automaticaly re logon Members automatically after crash or disconnection in next Client.exe update.

Watchdog also sets Client.exe priority to a higher level to avoid Disconnections.
It dosent monitor network connection yet.

If you want to disable the application simply remove the line from startup or userlogin bat and restart your machines.
Of course there will be a hot key shortcut and passowrd protection and many other featuers and options soon but untill then give it a try close or crash Client.exe :)

REMEMBER THIS IS FOR TESTING PORPUSE ONLY

i have problem when the user logout all applications will close. the problem with this is when the user run out of time (the smartlanch logout the user) it close all the applications my customers getting angry about this, is there anything i can do avoinding this problem.

obviously they started "selling" (is this a reply to my problem? or is it just commercial to sell 5.0?) now that 5.0 is almost done... but I don't know how many of us will fall into their trap again... of course all my anger is for support, because like I said a thousand times I LOVE SL, but I'm almost sure that I won't go to 5.0 unless I get a solid offer (I've bought 4.1 a few months ago and I belive they should make offers at least to newcomers), that they just said they won't, OR 5.0 is sooooo goddamn good it will be worth it (and even if its so, I really doubt it will have different support...).

hope to hear from all of my colleagues opinions, at least to show this guys that their lack of support (just to be nice...) will not remain unpunished and with the new version "maybe" they won't repeat the same error...

For any serious gaming center I seriously recommend stop waiting for SL 4.2, 4.8 , 5.8 or whatever the next release of SL will be.

Instead take a look at www.web-plus.gr and take a look at what they can do with your current SL client skin!

I have just spend 180Euro on a new client skin, costumized with our own logo, to our screen resolution. And again, WOW!!! :D

I have not fully tested the skin, so I have not found any bugs yet, but support for as long as I have the skin, and they ANSWER my emails immidiately, that alone assures me they are serious :cool:

So, I can´t tell you I finally found a better solution than SL, BUT I definetely finally found somebody who could transform my ugly boring grey mass of a client, to a professional looking gaming client :hehe:

To me it is a little suspicious that I cannot get in contact with anybody from smartlaunch :angry:
I know Oleg is busy at the forums, but I thought we paid for software, with free phone support as well?
Look at this from the sales (which is still at their sales):

The price includes access to free support through phone, e-mail, forum, Messenger and IRC channels. Once you have bought the system, there will be no extra charges.

If, by some chance, somebody from SL should see this, then my problem is that I need to transfer licenses....

Creating a SL link for a movie/media file on the server

What I am trying to do specifically is create a link to a video of the new Warhammer game, so that customers can view it from with in the smartlaunch menu. The video is on our server, and is in the public folder, and has sharing access turned on for everyone. Both computers are using Vista. I can get the video to play from a client computer by opening network explorer and opening the media shared computer, but I can't get it to launch from Smartlaunch, using numerous different paths.

I've tried launching it from both media player and IE. Any suggestions on how to make the SL shortcut so it works??

Is there some way to start the login and logout scripts in some other form than batch-files? and if there isn't, is there some way to hide the batch-files for good (so that users can't shut down the running batch-file). Otherwise users are always able to shutdown the active batch-file.

Controlling XBox 360 Consoles Manually

I have just setup SL 4.1 and created groups for both PC an Consoles. I have no troubles with the PC's however I cannot manually stop the timers on the consoles. Being in Australia I realise we cannot use the auto timers x10 but we should be able to manually stop the timers without having to turn off the server right? Can anybody help me here? When the client comes in I log the client onto the console manually but when I click on log off user it does nothing. The only option I have is either turn off the server or wait till they run out of time and both are not an option. Look forward to your reply. Cheers Realm1:cool:

Age of Conan does not work with Smartlaunch??

Hi, installed the Age of Conan game on some of my clients this afternoon, and after about a 6 hour install, and patch downloading, I can't get the simple .exe to run through SL. Path verifys ok, but then get a host of errors...

"Assertion Failed" is the box heading, and has a bunch of missing things. It has to be something in Sl, because when I kill the SL client, and launch it outside on an open computer, it works fine from the .exe that I set SL to launch from.

Can someone please help :(

First of all must be your network card capable for WON . most new card have this capability.

2\ Networks Adapters and select the LAN one , there are two or three:
one called local host (127.0.0.1)
one for wireless connection (not all motherboards)
one for LAN .

3\ Select "Advanced" from your network card tabs .

4\ Highlight "Wake from Shutdown" .

5\ Switch valve to "On" .

Now shut down your computer and turn on by SL (enjoy)

* When you turn on by SL , you should turn off by SL also .

That's it .

Online Petition for SmartLaunch.. Broken Promises + Greed

I speak for many gaming centers,

There has never or rarely has there ever been a company that would charge a large price for a product and as soon as it is purchased be treated like nothing. We have been promised bug fixes, updates, upgrades, additional pre-configured game, and up-to-date content.

Support has dropped for 4.1 as 5.0 is being developed, meaning say goodbye to bug fixes, any updates that were promised in the past year (that were supposed to be included) are now dismissed, and all SL has promised us has been broken.

They are not only going to charge us to upgrade to SL 5.0 (the only company ever to charge $$ for updates..) and even going to charge us for additional features AFTER the upgrade (they are not included!). Because we have already paid our part ($1000s per gaming center, surely), existing customers have been and will continue to be treated like dirt as SL continues to rip money from our already-empty pockets.

We are tired of this. Please respond to the online petition,

unfortunatly i can not restore Registry during Logout or lese some files are not transfered as U: gets disconnected ect

any idea's on a way to restore registry on boot ... I tried using a deep freeze but it seemed to fail ...somehow ... retesting another day ...

Lost Customers

Seriously... This shouldn't even be an issue...

I did something very simple and restarted my server. Next thing I know, I can't authorize Smartlaunch cause their authorization server was down.

As a result, I lost a lot of business. I don't know how it is for other cafe's, but I'm barely floating above water here. 400 euro lost income is a big deal for me. Something that I can't afford.

To add to that, my customers left and went to my direct competitor. Some liked it there, so I lost them permanently. So now i have a hit to my monthly income. Why? Because I relied on Smartlaunch to manage my cafe.

And what did they do about it? I'm still trying to find someone to talk to.

Why couldn't there be some sort of warning before disabling the licenses so I know that there's a problem? Give me a damn grace period so that you guys can get your act together and fix the damn thing... I paid money for the software, should i have to authorize it every time i restart the server?

Omni 3750 with SL Help! Driver?

I have an Omni 3750 credit card (broadband) credit card printer/terminal:

I just bought a RJ45 to RS232 converter:

Now.. I plugged it into my PC, and now I'm stuck. How do I have windows or SL detect it as a printer?
Someone in this forum has it setup with the Omni 3750, so it DEFINITELY works, just the question is.. how?

Is there a generic [b]driver[/b] that would work for this? Is there a special POS driver? Someone enlighten me!

SL turn off PC after x minutes...

I have a crappy Dell sytem, without Wake On Lan, and therefore interested in SL NOT turning the machines off after x minutes. Have anybody figured out how to have it go in stand by (S1 or S3) instead of turning it off?

Authorisation server down?

Can't authenticate our license this morning so we can't take any money. Seems like the server online is down as I asked another gaming centre to try installing a trial on a separate machine on their network and they have the same problem.

Anyone else?

Hello everyone.

We have been trying to get a webcam working through smartlaunch and have been having trouble.

The webcam works fine when it is run through admin on the client but as soon as the smartlaunch shell is on the webcam doesnt work.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Also does anyone have any solutions to this or types of webcams that work through smartlaunch?
