[Question] Create a skin from the beginning.

Been trying to play around with flash, and make a new skin, but redoing the old skin seems like a very slow way to do it.

So is there a "must" for using the old skin?, or could i in theory just make a completely new skin, like a website, and then use the data from the sl database, to get games and all that?.

Is there anywhere to find more information on how it all hangs together?.
Does it need specefic file names, and timeframes.

As I understand it, Smartlaunch just launches the skin file, as a fullpage website, then adds the startbar overlay over it(can be changed with a simple image).

And then the rest works sorta like a webpage that just sents requests back and forth, to start games, and run the files to go with it, (puf, licenses).

EDIT:
And do i need to use a specific flash version? or can i just use the newest version.

4.1 of 3.6 problems

Hello again!! As I have mentioned in earlier topics, the owner of the cafe that I am designing skins for, like the look and functionality of the 3.6 and Futuristic skins that come with SL. The problems I have been having are as follows:

I downloaded the 4.1 version of the 3.6 skin source from the website. Even if I export it straight out to an swf file, it doesn't work. The images in the middle don't show up, and neither does the Login information. So, I copied the swf file that comes with SL over, and used an swf decompiler to export it out to an fla source file to do the editing. Though it is very confusing, because nothing is named, I was still able to figure out how to edit it.

My first issue is, has anyone been able to edit and use the 4.1 of 3.6 from the website?

Second, my "decompiled" version loads properly, and looks nice, but every time we try to log in after up loading them, it says that there is no such user name. Any ideas? Maybe its in an action script or something? Seems like it isn't pulling information from the SQL Query, but I'm not really sure.

I'm not 100% fluent in Flash 8, but I do know a good deal about it, and am figuring out more as I go.

Or, if anyone has a successfully working 3.6 skin that is working, and would be willing to email me the source fla so I can edit it, would be nice as well.

Random selection

Anyone know if there is a way to setup SmartLaunch to randomly select a skin that is on the server? We currently have about 5 or 6 skins that we have on our server, and the owner was wondering if there was any way to set it up so that when the machines are first turned on, it randomly selects a skin, and displays it?

Beginner's Tutorial

I'm actually working on a beginner's guide to custom skins. It is only a BASIC editing type tutorial. It will not have anything in it about action scripts or the like. It will only have how to export the images, edit them, and import them back in and replacing them. It will also show how I did all the editing of the text within the skin. Now, with the text editing, I didn't find an easy way yo change the color of the font without going through each an every single one of the instances, and changing the color manually. I will, however, show how to change the actual font on about 80% of the skin, by simply changing one or two things.

Now, I have a day job that I work almost 60 hours per week, and have a family, so I will be compiling this in my spare time. Please give me a little while to get it somewhat thrown together. I will post updates as they come along.

Hello everyone.
I will make a tutorial soon that will cover the following aspects of making a skin.

- How to change the background of the skin ( i'l be showing how to add dynamic backround, that means multiple backgrounds)
- How to use video for background instead of static image.
- How to implement components inside the skin (did you know that you can even implement a chat system? i bet you dident)
- How to implement new buttons
- How to implement Videos,coments and more.

I will be making the tutorial in my free time.
Any suggestion are welcomed.

Auto adjust to screen resolution???

I have a very interesting issue. The owner of the cafe that I am designing skin(s) for was messing around with the skins I had uploaded to his server. I never took out the default skins that come with the SmartLaunch Server (default 3.6, default 4.0, and Futuristic 3.6). Even though he likes the 4.0 skins that I created, he likes the look and functionality of the 3.6 (especially the futuristic) better. My question is... Is there any way to have SmartLaunch automatically adjust to the current resolution of the monitor screen? The reason I ask, is because the default resolution that the skins were created in, is 1024 x 768. He has 12 machines in his cafe. Three have resolutions of 1366 x 768, three have resolutions of 1280 x 768, and the other six are 1024 x 768.

The default size of the skin looks great on the 1024 x 768, but on the higher resolutions, the skin is centered, but the "bars" don't extend to the edges of the screen. The owner would like to have all of the machines "look" alike. If I design the skin to be at 1366 x 768, will it still fit and look right on the 1024 x 768? Or, do I have to figure out the vertical positions of the bars and images of the actual skin itself, and make extensions to them in the background image?

First Timer Needs Help

Hello,

I am trying to work on a custom skin for a local gaming center. I have downloaded the .fla source file, and I have Macromedia Flash 8. I'm not wanting to tweak any of the operational features of the skin. I am just basically wanting to change the images for the backgrounds, menus, etc. I opened the .fla file in MF 8, I see a list of the associated files on the right hand side of the screen. I see the image files, but when I go to try to open them in an external editor, it tells me that the source file (with extension .png) cannot be found, and I cannot open with external editor.

Can someone please help me in getting started on my way to a custom skin please??? Also, please do not offer to build/design a skin for me for money, I am wanting to do this myself, not pay someone to do it for me, as I may be asked to build more custom skins for this same gaming center in the future.

Problewm while creating

Hi there,

I'm actually in the process of creating a skin for our store and almost everything is done except the Launch game button... Since the start I was relying on the "interfaceV40" for all the coding parts but I cant seem to launch a game with my button...

When I press it, the loading screen appear, get stuck on it and nothing launch. Every other skins can launch any game properly so I don't think its in the Smartlaunch options.

Is there something special to put in the action frame??

Hi to all,

A customer of ours asked us to mod their Smart Launch interface. Unfortunately, the original FLA (downloaded several times from http://www.smartlaunch.net/Software/Files/Skins/SmartlaunchInterfaceV36.zip ) seems to corrupted.

Even a compilation without any modification or hacking failed!

Is another version of the FLA available somewhere or will a new version be released? (we cannot use the 4.0 version)

Looking for a guide or some help in creating my own Skin, we are planing on opening our center in a few months and I have some time to get this thing created, but I do not want to install SmartLaunch on my personal PC to test it, is there a way to set a standard Username and Password just for testing purposes? Also I have very little knowledge of Flash, I am pretty sure I can figure it out in the time i need to but it will be pretty Basic, but with the default skin that you can download from the downloads page, if i just edit that will it plugin to the smartlaunch with out any issues?

i downloaded skin v4.1 source from the smartlaunch website , i edited some images but i got some problems:

1- the performance of the skin is very slow i did change some images only (i didnt add any effects, scripts ...etc)

2- when the user want to change his password and the client start ask to fill his new password he cannot type anything !!

Skin Template Issues

We are about to launch our cafe and would like to have a nice looking, well functioning custom skin.

What versions of flash should be used to edit this template?
I am using CS4, and run into several problems...

Password fields show up completely blank, but still accept input. There are just no asterisks.
The text on the start button does not appear. We had to alter the background image of the start button to say start, rather than having text on top of it.
The scrollbars in "News and Events" do not work (then again, they don't work on the standard smartlaunch skin either)

Will these problems be solved by switching to an older version of flash?

Default Skin Resolution Problem

Hello everyone;

I did an update to some games and the flash player in my computers, now the resolution of the Default skin has changed to a smaller one (It looks bigger) Just the skin, not the monitor resolution. I have try everything from reinstalling the client to override the server configuration... nothing works. Any help?
